Colonel Brenda A. Oppel is a National Defense Fellow completing her Senior Developmental Education equivalent as an Air Force Fellow at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. The Military Fellows program provides Fletcher students with essential practical insights into the U.S. Armed Services. As a Fletcher International Security Studies Program Fellow, Colonel Oppel attends Fletcher seminars and lectures, participates actively in program educational activities, and completes a research paper on a contemporary defense issue.
Colonel Oppel graduated from Mississippi State University and was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps in May 1998 as a communications and information officer. Colonel Oppel has held a variety of positions to include squadron commander, deployed detachment commander, flight commander, executive officer, software analyst, intermediate developmental education instructor, and combined-joint communications directorate plans lead. Colonel Oppel has performed deployed communications and information, and cyberspace operations in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, JOINT GUARDIAN, and NEW DAWN.
